The Burghers of Calais

Guido van Helten does beautiful pieces inspired by old classical sculptures. Now this Aussie has found himself up in London where he blessed this abandoned space with his version of "The Burghers of Calais" sculpture by Auguste Rodin of Jean d’aire, Eustache de Saint Pierre and Pierre de Wissant found in Westminster. I love the smokey effect he gives to his work with contrasting blocks of color and tone that form into this detailed and meticulous rendering of the original photo. And of course the placement of his work, amongst gritty, urban spaces, combined with the fine classic imagery is a beautiful contrast and addition to these spaces... it's a welcoming touch of "fine" street art to the lost.
